DCPS Updating Facilities Master Plan
The DCPS Office of Facilities Management is currently in the process
of updating the DCPS Facility Master Plan that was adopted by the
Board of Education in 2001. An update is due by this coming September.
Part of the update process has been a series of community meetings
held around the city over the past three months. The meetings have
covered a number of issues that have needed to be solved for successful
facilities planning, including: school boundaries; enrollments and
capacities; grade configurations; and capital improvement program
budgeting. Two more community meetings remain to be held in this
process: at Janney ES on July 8th at 7PM; and at Randle Highlands
ES on July 10th at 6:30PM
LSRTs Without Budgets at Years' End - Board of Ed Hearing on Budgets
July 14
Local School Restructuring Teams are typically asked to sign off
on their local school plans and budgets long before the summer recess.
This year, however, principals and LSRTs faced the final day of
school without receiving individual school budgets for the coming
year. This leaves planning for the start of school in September
in limbo at every school in the District. It also raises speculation
about the possibility that across-the-board cuts are being considered.
You can ask questions and voice your concerns about the DCPS operating
budget at a hearing that has recently been scheduled by the Board
of Education's Committee on Finance and Facilities. The public hearing
is Monday, July 14, 2003; 6:30 pm in the 5th Floor Board Room, 825
N. Capitol St., NE. You may call Elena Temple to sign up to testify:
202-442-5190 (Elena.Temple@k12.dc.us).
